Last week Israel celebrated its 70th years birthday. The same day USA moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and thereby recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The palestinians mark the same event as the nakba - catastrophe. The day before the 70th anniversary, Jerusalem Day is celebrated to mark the reunification of Jerusalem after the six day war. The attendants walk through the Arabic part of the Old City and celebrate.
Through out the city, Trump is celebrated for his decision to move the embassy. A roundabout is now called after him and the local football club included ‘Trump’ in its name
Near the Kalandia checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank, there were protests and clashes during the days. Israeli army fired rubber bullets and teargas and some of the protesters threw stones and lightened tires to hide from the Israeli line of fire.
Few places in Jerusalem, people gathered to protest the killings in Gaza.
They were around 20 people protesting at the Hebrew University when the police showed up and arrested two people. Allegedly for no reason.
The USA embassy is placed in an anonymous neighbourhood of South Jerusalem. The world press was well present as well as some supporters of the embassy.
It had been a good week for a lot of people in Israel. Both had they won the Eurovision contest, they successfully bombed Iranian goals and now USA recognised Jerusalem as the capital.
